Sundae Sunday
In the tradition of the 1890’s, DVSS has held a summer ice cream social annually for several years.
We’ve moved up the hill from the heat of Denver to Tiny Town for the past two years, to escape Denver’s July temperatures. Tiny Town features a 15” minimum-gauge ridable railway, a gauge developed in 1880’s Britain for restricted environments such as estates, mines, and battlefields. The trains are pulled by steam engines; #10, the Cinder Belle, is a 2-6-0 coal-fired “Mogul” locomotive. Details about running #10 are on the Tiny Town web site.
The miniature buildings are the other major attractions, including some really beautiful replicas of Colorado Gothic homes. There are over 100 1/6 scale buildings in Tiny Town, and many of them are replicas of area landmarks, including Coney Island, the dearly deaprted White Fence Farm, and the Argo silver mine.
What to expect
Create your own signature sundae! DVSS brings the ice cream and some sodas; everyone brings something – pot-luck style - to put on top. Tiny Town doesn’t permit glass, so we have a collection of Lucite sundae and soda glasses for your creations. We also ask folx to bring toppings in non-breakable containers.
Admission to Tiny Town is $5 and rides on the train are $4 each.
Sundae Sunday has always been Neo-Victorian dress optional because of Denver’s summer heat. However, Tiny Town is somewhat cooler, and is a great location for quirky photos of your Steamiest frocks and frippery. So come as you are, or come all out.
