Tea Foods for the Tea Novice

It’s a dizzying array of tea foods on a DVSS Tea Table. We know that. Since our Teas are typically Potluck affairs, you might be at a loss as to what to bring. We’re here to help.

Teas usually include several "standards" -

  • Scones and spreads

  • Fancy cake (like the ones in the grocery bakery) or mini cupcakes; petit fours

  • Plain cake or quick breads (also available at your local grocery bakery) like pumpkin or banana bread, lemon creme cake, mini muffins or even brownie bites

  • Other sweets

    • biscuits - what us west of the Pond like to call “cookies”. Tea cookies specifically.

    • macarons

    • fancy chocolates, mini cheesecakes, lemon bars

    • bite-sized fruit

  • Tea sandwiches

  • Savories

    • think elegant party appetizers - cream cheese and ?? pinwheels, bruschetta, potted crab with baguette toasts, cheese straws, mozzarella wrapped in ham or proscutto, mini quiches, brie in puff pastry

    • a variety of cheese cubes

    • nuts

  • Tea, of course - and other beverages for those who don't drink tea; lemonade, limeade, sangria, Mimosas. Don’t forget milk and sugar!

If you’re not inclined to cook, much of this can be purchased at the supermarket, including lemon and lime curds, and clotted cream!  Just remember to keep things in one or two bite-sized pieces. Another consideration is that we have guests with a wide variety of dietary restrictions, so a wide variety of food is a great thing. And please leave chips and dips for the Super Bowl party.

If you do wish to cook for a Tea or other potluck, check out the other entries in our “reci-log” for some of our favorite recipies.

Being dedicated to inclusion in our Diverse Amusements, we always offer sections to meet specific dietary requirements, including gluten-free and vegan options. Feel assured that we will be able to accomodate you when you bring vegan cucumber sandwiches.
